Autocrossing is a time-based event in which cars race against the clock on a course made of cones. Doesn't sound complicated or exciting, but it is the complete driving experience, allowing you to push the limits of you and your car in a controlled environment.

This was a perfect day for an autocross with the sun shining and clear skies over John Hunt Park. The reverse course was challenging, but fast with the fastest times breaking 59 seconds. As the runs continued throughout the day, a potentially hazardous section of the course developed where if you pushed it too hard, you could go off course into one of the two largest ditches at the venue.

Unfortunately, our very own tjamn68 did exactly that. In the many, many years that I've been autocrossing and covering autocrossing, this was my first time to see an incident. But as expected at a low-speed event like autocrossing, no one was hurt, and the car was quickly recovered and suffered mostly cosmetic damage. It actually continued to race throughout the day, and finished with a trophy--and one of the most unique trophies ever--a funnel with a car glued to the top.

I tried setting one of my cameras to a preset for the first time. I learned that while this is great for someone who wants a particular effect without knowing how to do it, it did not yield the results that my other camera set manually did. Regardless, I was able to get some of the best shots I think I've ever gotten, mainly thanks to a finish section of the course that lended itself to drifting. If you've ever wanted a picture of yourself sliding sideways looking like you're going 100mph, you'll find it in the gallery. And help show it off to your friends by getting a print or a photo gift. The proceeds help support Huntsville Car Scene.com. As always, you can link the image to facebook and other social sites. Just click on the "share" button.

Special shout out to richamby for posing for the camera. Also special thanks to Glenn for letting me try out his Leica rangefinder. See everyone next time!

It started out as a cold morning, but the sun was shining down and the chrome was sparkling in the parking lot. I was happy to see over 40 bikes come out for the ride. I was even more happy to see some familiar faces I hadn't seen in years. It was good to see Ike and a lot of old friends still riding.

Inside, there were over 50 items that were being raffled including a big screen tv. I stayed long enough in the morning to catch some bikes roll out and then went to cover the Twickenham Auto Club's autocross. When the autocross event broke for lunch, I came back to eat lunch with the Eagles and catch the bikes coming back from the ride. Everyone I talked to was happy with the ride and the weather seemed to warm up perfectly. I grabbed a cheeseburger and hot dog and quickly scarfed it down. I didn't have time to try the bbq sandwiches. I heard those were great. See everyone at the next ride.
