It has been many years since I've been to CBI's open house, and it is still going strong. This was the 20th year of the event, and like many years in the past, there was some warehouse space available for indoor parking. Many cars actually came the day before to secure their parking spot.

Well over a hundred very unique and rare cars came to the event including a Mercedes Mclaren SLR. This is only the second time in my life that I've ever seen one of these in person, and it is by far the most expensive car that I've ever photographed. This car retails for over half a million dollars. It actually belongs to one of CBI's vendors and race team owners. And the car owner, mpickens was gracious enough to let our Christmas elf, Elodie, model with the car. It's the first time in my life that I wished I was the model. Elodie is a professional model with PAMA Agency here in Huntsville. PAMA Agency has highly skilled talent available, and is where most of the talent used in local print, television, film, and events comes from. Elodie is of French heritage and speaks fluent French. She had a great time at the event (even though she was freezing), and I think we can expect to see her again next year. Special thanks to both her mother and friend for coming and helping out.

Among the hundreds of spectators that came to the event, there were quite a few new and old friends that I hadn't seen in a long time. One friend I was very glad to see back up and about was Doug Poole. He suffered a bad car accident shortly before his show earlier this year. It was so good to see him back to his old self again.

Special thanks to Misty, Jeff, and all the people that helped with the event. Be sure to support CBI by checking with them for all your automotive, performance, and restoration needs. I only recently learned they fill nitrous bottles and stock performance fluids from Red Line. Looks like I won't have to hunt all over Huntsville for these products anymore. See everyone next year!

The Vettes returned to a much colder race course than last month, and one that was much longer. The faster times broke the one minute mark, but that's almost double the run times of the much quicker course last month.

And because of the cold weather, traction was an ever-present issue for the drivers, finding more slide than grip in most corners on the course. Still, there were some impressive times and speeds that were reached at the old airport.

This is the second to last event in the national autocross series with only one remaining event in Florida before the series is finished. Many cars from Saturday did not return Sunday. I believe many were settled in their positions in the series and decided that one more tiring day in the cold wasn't worth it. Since the cold froze my hands through my gloves, I wholeheartedly agree with this course of action.

It was good to see the local Corvette groups coming out in force to help work the course. They were braving the cold just as I was. I had my car nearby in which I would defrost my hands every hour. I readily accepted a bowl of stew with some guilt after finding out the stew emptied before most drivers could get a second helping.

With the dreary overcast day, I decided to try a different angle on the photos, and to not shoot video since there was plenty from last time. The goal was to create shots that would look good on a framed canvas sized poster. I think I achieved that goal. Incidentally, these shots can be ordered on canvas sized posters. And any proceeds from these items help fund this site.

I hope all of the drivers enjoyed their time in Huntsville, and I look forward to seeing you all again next year. Happy Holidays!

What a wonderful evening with some great people. It's been a few years since I've seen a lot of my friends in the local British car club, so when I found out their Christmas party was on the same day I was going to be out covering events, I made sure to stop by.

The Century showroom was transformed into an elegant evening with toys collected for charity and a pot luck dinner. Conversation abounded about the various British cars that came that evening, and about the ones still undergoing restoration. The food was great and so was the company.

Tonight, I met James Mace of Mace Restoration who has what I think is a great idea for giving back to the community--his idea is to select someone deserving of a restoration or customization of a car, and then surprise them with it being done.

This would be something in the spirit of "Pimp my Ride" but something more down to Earth. He wants to form a committee for the project and get enough exposure to help get people that truly deserve such a gift a chance to get it. If anyone is interested in helping with this idea, feel free to contact me at 615-512-5520 or James at 208-249-4285. Be sure to mention why you are calling and that you saw this on Huntsville Car Scene.com. Happy Holidays everyone!
