Miatas in Mentone
Calendar: Events Calendar
Samir
August 19th to August 21st 08:00 AM to 06:00 PM
Where: Mentone, Alabama

From the discussion thread:

"The Rocket City Miata Club of Huntsville, Alabama is planning a late summer drive to, through and around the mountains of north east Alabama, north west Georgia and southern Tennessee and we invite you to join us. We are expecting participation from the Music City, CAMS, Peachtree and Scenic City Clubs plus the RCMC.

The "Miatas at Mentone" event will be held the weekend of August 19, 20 and 21, 2005 in Mentone AL. We are planning this as a "no-host" event similar to "Miatas at the Gap" with some local dealer support. We anticipate different clubs would lead or plan a drive out which when combined would provide a couple of days of driving pleasure in our area as well as some great social opportunities. We are planning some self-guided driving tours, a trivia type rally and a car show. There could easily be a couple hundred cars involved. Please add this event to your 2005 schedule.

Mentone is located near the Alabama/GA border in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. There are a number of lodging and dining possibilities. Each group will be responsible for their own lodging and dinning reservations. There are no additional fees or charges for the drive outs or the rally. None of the events are competitive type racing events and all are conducted on public highways open to general traffic. Some of the lodges in the area require a 2-night minimum. Lodging in the Mentone area may be found by going to www.tourdekalb.com and varies from camping to very nice.

The planning is complete and we are ready for the fun to begin. There will be a band performing on Sat night in the town square. Many of the resorts and lodges in the Mentone area are full beginning in mid September through November with old folks, not like us, to look at the Fall Color. One additional note – Mentone is in a dry county so bring it with you or do without and bring it in a bag.

Additional information and event updates will be posted on our web site www.rocketcitymiata.org or you can email either of the below at info@rocketcitymiata.org"

Update 7-10-2005:

"Dear Miata Enthusiasts

Time is getting close and The Rocket City Miata Club of Huntsville, Alabama is making those last minute preparations for a fun filled weekend in the mountains. This weekend will include 5 late summer drives to, through and around the mountains of north east Alabama, north west Georgia and southern Tennessee and we invite you to join us. The drives are set up so that you can drive them alone with a small group or a larger group. We have a couple of our members that are willing to lead a group if they have enough interest. We are expecting participation from the Music City, CAMS, Peachtree and Scenic City Clubs plus the RCMC and maybe a few from a little further away.

We are planning some self-guided driving tours and a Miata only car show. Yes we have found some very challenging roads for those that wish to try them. We, RCMC, will be arriving through out the day on the 19th and are having dinner at the Mentone Springs Hotel. There is nothing planned for Friday evening except to enjoy the mountains. Saturday we will have maps and information available on the porch of the Mentone Inn just across from the hotel, look for the “Miatas at Mentone” banner. We may even have a few give a ways to those who stop by and say Hello, there will be some one from RCMC on the porch all day Saturday. Sunday is a lazy day to enjoy the area and take a different route home. None of the drives are competitive type racing events and all are conducted on public highways open to general traffic. There are no fees or charges for the drive outs or the car show. There will be a trophy for 1st Place, 1st Gen; 1st Place, 2nd Gen and one for Best In The Show.
