Autocrossing is a time-based event in which cars race against the clock on a course made of cones. Doesn't sound complicated or exciting, but it is the complete driving experience, allowing you to push the limits of you and your car in a controlled environment.

After weeks of rain, the sky finally opened up again. I knew the weather today would bring out everyone tired of rain-induced cabin fever. I don't think I've ever been to an autocross with better weather. And with 60 entries, there was plenty of track time for everyone with a total of 8 runs per entry.

The course was fast with most times under 50 seconds and the fastest times approaching 40 seconds. There were several cars from out of the area including a new friend that decided to run the autocross as a stop on a trip to Atlanta. Not only did he stop by, but he walked away with four trophies.

Many of the usual suspects were out in full force with some close call spins near corner stations. The speeds were relatively slow in comparison to some of the courses of the past, but navigation of the entrance and exit of the slaloms and corners determined if you could keep the speed or not. Those that made it look easy were definitely quicker, but I think those that tried to throttle steer through the section before the finish might have had more fun. There was definitely some tail-happy driving going on.

Several spectators came through during the event including a local Ford GT. Since MugenRios2k's s2000 was parked for the rest of the day due to a check engine light, parking it next to the Ford GT made for some interesting pictures of two high-performance yellow cars with black accents.

There should be several shots of each car in each run group as well as some still shots while in the grid or paddock. If you see something you like, buy it! Buy it as a t-shirt, buy it as a puzzle, buy it as coffee cup, buy it as a canvas print, or even just buy it as a photo. All the proceeds from these sales help pay Huntsville Car Scene bills, so be generous. See you all at the next event.

Looks like it was a good turn out. I hate that I missed it. Hopefully I'll come out of hiding for the next event...lol.

Oh you missed an awesome event. It was one of the best I've seen. A LOT of accolades on the course.

Loved the vid! I never got to ride with anyone, but I did now.

It felt like you might have hit a cone in the late two gates of the slalom before the finish. Did you or was it a clean run?

Glad you liked the virtual ride-along. Great pix, BTW!

No cones. They said it was a clean run but yeah, I got a little behind by the wall before the finish. I got greedy and pushed even harder on the next run and took out a bunch of cones near the finish. What a fun day!!

Thank you for the compliments on the pics. A lot of people were having fun pushing it at the end. I'm actually surprised someone didn't get completely sideways and take out one of the walls of cones for a whopping +6, lol.
