Bmw z3

Got a chance to buy a one owner 2000 BMW Z3 2.8 fully loaded roadster with a Hardtop, Nav etc. clean CarFax, with just over 12,000 miles for a very reasonable price according to Edmunds, KBB, and NADA guides. Anything in particular to look for? Have no experience with a Z3, have a close friend with a 2007 Z4M that I have driven quite a bit and like. This will be used as a daily driver. Any guidance would be appreciated

I talked to my friend and the only thing he mentioned was that on models before 2000, traction control couldn't be disabled.

I've driven a z4 and ridden in my friend's z3. I think the z3 feels more like a pure sports car whereas the z4 is a little less sporty. But being that your friend's is an z4m, it probably feels closer to the 2.8 z3.

Thanks Samir, not sure how close the Z3 would be to the Z4 M, as the Z4 M is a 3.2 twin turbo 6 with 320 hp 6 spd manual, vs a 2.8 normally aspirated 6 with 193 hp and a 4 spd auto. The traction control not being able to turn off would not be a problem for me, as this would be a daily driver.

I think the difference in transmission would be the biggest factor. The z4 felt A LOT heavier than the z3. My friend's only has the 2.3 4cyl and it's pretty peppy. With a 2.8 6cyl, the car seem like it would be on par with my Boxster power-wise, but lighter and more agile.

If you get the car, I'd really like a ride. I'll give you a ride in the Boxster too, so we'll both have a better idea of how they compare. And I'll invite my friend with the z3 so we can both compare with that. And while we're at it, let's throw some s2000s into the mix...

Well I made the deal today to purchase it, should pick it up on Friday as they had some work scheduled at the BMW place on it on Thursday. Drove like a dream though I was very sedate with it, very pretty car, needs a detailing job for sure, one rear wheel has a little curb rash, a couple of small scratches here and there, a couple small dents in the hood that I hope can be repaired by a paintless guy, and some light wear on driver's seat side bolster that needs to be dyed back somehow. Has a BMW dealer installed GPS unit that I am not crazy about that I sure cost a fortune way back when, and probably will cost a fortune for a software update. All in all very solid vehicle for a 10 year old car. MSRP was over $45,500, not counting the dealer installed navigation and trunk mounted 6 disc CD changer. This is not the actual car, however one like it, except mine has the color matched hardtop

A friend of mine used to have one but his was M rodster. The only issues he had was the clutch but I think he had something to do with that.....
