You Pick the Default Avatars - Page 3

I've realized there is a sizing issue I wasn't aware of until today.

So smugmug's smallest size (perfect for avatars) is 100x75 or 75x100. Either way, it's too large for the current 80x80 size. So I need to increase this to 100x100. But if I increase this, advertisers who have paid to have their avatar on HCS will get a bit lost in the shuffle, so I have to increase their size as well. All of this will be sorted out by the time avatars are turned on.

But until avatars are officially turned on, if you have an avatar you'd like to use that meets the 100x100 size requirement as well as content, feel free to post it here and request that it be added to your profile. To make an animated avatar of the correct size, use something like picasion.com.

So I'm a bit confused. Are those the images you wanted for your avatar?

Avatars will be turned on for all once I'm happy with the set of default ones that are loaded in the system. The problem with that is that those images need to be found so I can load them in. And I need help combing through the 100k+ photos where I've taken pictures of logos specifically for avatars since 2010 (I stopped doing this in late 2011 and 2012).

Until then, they remain off. But individual requests for avatars that meet the rule are welcome and I can add those to accounts manually until avatars are turned on for all.

Hope that clarifies things a bit.

Hmmm...it needs to be a little more personably identifiable.

This would be great for a generic avatar until someone has some specific pictures of their car, but I know I've taken a lot of nice ones of you and yours.

Ah, I get you now.

But I think the Rat Trap image doesn't really do more to personally identify you than your username. Let me know the next time we're at an event and I'll taken the image you're wanting.

The problem with an image like this is that while it does reflect you (camera and the Z logo), it doesn't help anyone recognize you in person. Now, this image as part of an animated avatar that has some more identifiable items would work. But then the only thing is that unless you've shot that image or have the rights to it, it would be in violation of someone's copyright.

That's what I don't like about 'online' avatars--you have no idea what the license/copyright entails. And since avatars have to be uploaded to the HCS server, that's liability exposure for HCS.

I did use an image online, edited it, and made it that, I can however recreate it 100% as that is my camera exactly.

I don't however follow how this is any different than a picture of an emblem on a car. Infact people would relate that better to me than just a simple emblem, it has the Z emblem, the color of my car, and a camera. Other than making an avatar of my face I don't think it is possible for someone to relate anything better to me.

Sweet! That works since it's your copyright and you own the rights to the image.

The whole idea of the emblems is just something temporary that's close so people have something before getting an image there. I didn't notice the background color until you mentioned it and I know the color of your car.

It's things like this that make it a little less than ideal.

But if you want to make an image with this, I'll set it for you.

I would prefer you have your Z in there somewhere as 'Z' doesn't indicate 350 or 370 or any of the other Z cars in the historical lineup.
