4L65E rebuild cost?
Can anyone shoot me a rough idea on the cost of rebuilding a 4L65E transmission?
I drove my mom's truck back to school last night so I could haul my stuff back home after finals and I do believe the forward sprag broke tonight. Acts like it's in neutral when I put it in Drive or drop it to 3rd but it will go in R, 1, and 2... internet searching points me to the sprag which means rebuilt time. Truck in question is a 2005 Silverado SS, AWD. FML

In 2008 I paid about $2200 for the rebuild in my Escalade with the same drivetrain as your SS. It would go into 1st and 2nd, not 3,4,or R.
Had I to do it over again I would have explored more options. There are alot more used units on the market now so the prices may be lower. At the time a used one was IIRC $1500ish without knowing its exact history. Id also look into new or reman units with more the a 12k mile warranty.

Maybe Jireh Customs can chime in here. I'm sure they've had to rebuild things here and there and know what might be the best route in a situation like this.

Sounds like it may just be in limp mode. It may be as simple as the speed sensor came unplugged or may be malfunctioning.

Is there anyway I can test the speed sensor? No CEL's, just for the record.
I called our transmission guy back home and he quoted us $1400 for a full rebuild, if the sprag is the issue. We've figured out a way to get it home too so it all should go smoothly but it'd be great if it was a easy sensor fix. |

That part I don't know about. When I changed the trans in my 95 GMC, it would only work in limp mode. I had to get the speed sensor out of my old trans and plug it in and it works fine. The other sensor was for a different model. In your case, since it was working fine and just quit, I would check the plugs though unlikely and possibly replace the sensor before removing the trans.

This might be a stupid question, since it is a speed sensor, wouldn't that mean that my speedometer wouldn't work or would be way off or something?
Is the limp mode something that would pull up if I pulled the codes on it? |

Check with the guys at Trufacts, Boostfab or Y.E.S. Automotive. Even if they don't trans work on the 4L60e, they can point you to someone in Huntsville that does. http://www.huntsvillecarscene.com/in...#axzz1tYkYHt00
