Little River Canyon Run and Meet
Calendar: Events Calendar
ray
July 14th 10:00 AM to 05:30 PM
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
Where: Little River Canyon, Fort Payne, AL
Contact: Ray - 256-653-2183

This will be the next official meet for the North Alabama Mitsubishi Owners and should be a great time! I plan to have a strong showing from the Huntsville Flat Four group as well.

Anyone is welcome but the only thing I ask is that your car is up to snuff on handling. This is a somewhat technical run/cruise and I want to make sure everyone has fun but is safe at the same time. You can still come along but you may need to drive at the back of the group once we arrive at the canyon if you do not have a car that can handle or if you have any doubts about handling your car. I'm sure a few gracious drivers will be willing to let you ride with them as well.

Lunch will be in an area where everyone has options. We will park in a parking lot that has access to Cracker Barrel, Santa Fe Cattle Company and Ruby Tuesdays. This way no one is separated and everyone can choose whatever they desire for lunch. There is a map here (http://goo.gl/maps/nXgB) in the event people just want to meet there or get separated from the main group during the drive into Fort Payne.

Here is the rough plan, subject to change:
  • 9:30-10am
    Meet in Huntsville at:

    Lowe's Home Improvement
6584 Hwy 431 S, Owens Cross Roads, AL
    http://goo.gl/maps/JpyR

Meet there as close to 9:30am as possible because we leave at 10am.
  • 10am
Leave from location on the way to Little River Canyon in Fort Payne
  • 11:30am-12pm
Arrive in Fort Payne for lunch
  • 1:30pm
Lunch ends. Drive to the entrance of Little River Canyon Parkway
  • Talk, stage and drive the canyon forward and then stop at the end for a bit and drive back through to the starting point
  • 3:30pm
Leave Fort Payne and drive back into Huntsville
  • 5:00-5:30pm
Arrive at the Cafe 302 Car Show
Upload your media here to have it appear below.

Video still being processed so quality should improve with 720p processed. Just took a few clips here and there. Original video was 17 minutes long so had to cut a lot. Ray gets to be the main star of the vid

Very nice! What software did you use to get these results? I'd really love to batch process all my stuff to look like this prior to upload.

Better yet--you cook for us at the Canyon next time and we'll each throw in a few bucks.

I don't know why, but your car sounded like a Mustang to me the whole time. For most of the video, I thought you had actually put the camera on a Mustang.

What size is the raw clip? If it's under 3gb, upload it here so we can check out the whole thing in full high-res glory:

Pretty sure he did all his changes in Photoshop. I hit them with just the Camera Neutral preset in Lightroom for my camera. I <3 shooting stuff in RAW because it is so easy to change or even save a pic that looks marginal. (Not that any of these needed saving, they were all very good and just need a crop and normalization)

Lightroom is the bomb. I don't even have computing power that can run it, but it can really help with high-volume publishing like what I do--batch processing, automatic cataloging and archive management, and an upload plugin to publish things quickly and easily. Maybe one day.

Yeah they are done in Photoshop (CS5 specifically, content-aware FTW). No way I could do batch processing and make them look like that. Several things are removed (road imperfections, powerlines, etc) and the color corrections are really dependent on the picture.

And that's the main reason I can't batch process--it's just not automated enough. Lightroom can do quite a bit in a batch process, but it's still not 'fire and forget' yet.

But the day it is, I can tell it to retouch every photo I've ever shot and replace the uploaded copies with the new ones.

It won't ever get where you can batch process raw files or jpg for that matter to a point where they auto-correct white balance perfectly and sharpen the proper amount. It just won't happen. Every picture I've ever shot for you since I have started, has been opened in elements and corrected one by one.

I used to think that way until I've saw some of the tools that exist in-camera now--auto oof detection in a burst series, in-camera selective coloring, etc. I think there will come a day when you can batch process stuff very quickly. It's how instagram has made its mark, and I think things will continue to go that way. It won't be 100%, but 'good enough' rules publications now, not perfection.

you may can auto process but you don't gain your own style that way. you can auto-tune everything batch already in CS5, but unless you want a boring "correct" image, you gotta fine tune.

In my opinion a style is derived more from the framing and other parameters of the shot than the post-production of the shot. Going back to the film days--it's not the darkroom that made or broke the shot, but the negative that it started from. I look at the 'digital darkroom' in the same way.
