Ride of the Month

So I was thinking about this earlier today and just thought I would bring it up. What if HCS did a ride of the month? Maybe do it by members choice, or by HSC staff colaberation. Take the person who won and maybe do a free photoshoot of their car and a t-shirt (when/if there will be HSC t-shirts). Then give them a little mini-feature on the home page. Just some Ideas, but I think it would be cool. I know its still early in the up and running again stage of the site, but something to think about at least. I was gonna post this in the What's new area, but it wouldn't let me, so I posted it here.lol

It's been discussed amongst us about doing something like this.

Love the idea, though!

Great minds think alike apparently! i just think it would be something cool and it wouldnt have to be some full out show car or race car, just a car/person that has made a contibution to the scene, or a car/truck/van/suv thats been around for a while, etc....

I'm a moderator on Dallasimports.net and they have a Ride of the Month (ROTM) where it's a vote by members. Members submit their ride (pics, specs, info, etc) via email and the mods pick 3 to go against each other for the vote.

It may or may not be like that on HCS, but I'm pretty sure we'll have something along the lines of a ROTM.

It's a great idea munchie, and since we have a ton of pictures come in each month, it should be fairly easy to have a ROTM nomination thread from pics posted by HCS. I actually wanted to do this years ago, but there wasn't enough time/staff/coordination to do it.

The other thing we'll be doing is feature articles on local vehicles. We have some NICE cars with great stories and owners behind them. These would be great for us to all read about. This was another idea from years ago, but the forum technology wasn't as great as it is now. Instead of having to hand-code an article system, now I can just pay for one, lol.

I think it'd be a good idea too. List them and make a poll that users may vote on for the entire month...the one that gets the most votes can get a full write up, photo shoot, etc. and it can be posted up all month for all to see while there is another poll set up for the next month's R.O.M. Make it so users can only vote once though, otherwise it will get out of hand.

Normally you can only vote once JayMack, the forum knows your username.

Anonymous posting would definitely hurt such a thing though.

Polls posted on HCS cannot be anonymous.

No, what I mean is Samir (or one of the other moderators) set up a poll for the R.O.T.M. that consists of the people that have submitted their names/pictures to be considered. I know you can only vote once, but I also know it can be set to have repetative voting on polls as well, or some can, but thats not good in this case because one person could vote 100 times for themselves. Fair and accurate is what to aim for and each user allowed one vote would work pretty well. With all things comes tweaking, but its worth a try.

Only registered users can vote on polls, and they can only vote once.

Right, which is exactly what makes the poll for R.O.T.M. work. One person, one vote and no more than that. That way there can be no cheating or vote whoring, etc.

I love the idea of ride of the month. i would also like to see that ROTM owners have a mandatory minimum of posts.

Because HCS has a traffic ratio of 10:1 of guests vs registered users, I don't think this would be feasible. We'd end up seeing the same cars over and over.

Plus a lot of the realy nice cars, that are owned by the older generation car guy, don't really ever get on the forums and post up. A lot of us younger ones who are more internet savy do.

Exactly. HCS is the ONLY site a lot of the older generation would visit. I don't want to exclude their cars from ROTM just because they don't post in a forum. In fact, I see the ROTM encouraging a lot of the older generation to get on the forum. Since voting is only by registered members.
