Are oil pumps important?

Should I be concerned that my gauge does not read any pressure? And what about that loud tapping noise in my engine? Can I just take off the breather and replace the oil pump through the carburetor? Would it take more than 5 or 10 minutes?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......

Does the dist shaft run the oil pump? Food for thought. I thought that was a weak point on Fords.

A faulty muffler bearing can cause the same thing.. I would check them first.. I just bought a new 350 horse power set today..They were built for nopi import racing.. I modified them to work on my flathead Fargo truck. Maybe you should try a louder sound system. .You can always put sawdust in the crankcase.. I hope this techincal stuff helps you..

Well, no.
The 84 does not contain a stock 5.0 engine. A stock shaft is hex-shaped the whole length. I have an FMS shaft that is only hexed at the ends, then round from end-to-end for strength.

Gotta be the pump, nothing else. Only other is stripping of the ends in the pump or dizzy shaft. Either way, I am thinking this is better left to pulling the engine, I can have it ready to come out in 2 hours. Need a picker and a stand, though.

So, does the club have a picker and a stand? Or, does anyone have that I can borrow?

Man... I'm feelin' like Rodney Dangerfield.

Speaking of muffler bearings, they are only less than $50!
I am doing all my shopping here for the rebuild.

If you're pulling the engine I can give you a hand, The Wifey flies out to go home for a couple of weeks on the 8th. Soooo, if you plan to pull it on one of those weekends I can be there.
