Rallycrossing is like autocrossing, except off-road. It allows you to learn some of the more subtle techniques of driving and make a lot of dust in the process.

From the discussion thread:

08:00 Course setup/tech/registration
10:00 Driver's meeting
10:30 1st car off

SCCA members - $30. Non-SCCA folks - $35. FREE to come and watch, FREE to ride with someone.

4 timed runs + 4 timed runs. Free fun runs afterwards.

You wear them home - it's that big grin on your face"

You can run any stock height vehicle in rallycross, and I believe that includes stock-height 4wd vehicles, so you can have the power of all wheel drive on your side. And of course, Subarus are welcome, even the crazy turbo-charged type.

Because the site has been used so often, the course is actually captured by google maps. Check it out here.

it was a clear cold day with a brisk wind that cut through you like a hot knife through butter. But the blustery conditions were made very tolerable with a wonderful setup by Eden and Miles complete with a heater and hot chocolate.

The course surface was a bit damp from the most recent rains, but after a few runs, it was absolutely perfect with just enough grip. And the three drivers that were able to compete enjoyed it thoroughly. Tires made a big difference on a day like today, and the right tire choice had great bite.

The timed laps had some interesting varitions including a four lap enduro. Two laps back to back was bad enough, and it seemed like the four lapper would wear everyone out. But instead it seemed like the four laps just helped drivers dial-in lap after lap.

I shot more video than anything today since it does the sport more justice. If it looks fun, it is. If it looks bumpy, it is. But that's part of the challenge. If you like sliding sideways within the finer elements of control and jolting suspension feedback, you'll love this sport. Come check it out.
