Trail of Tears Saturday September 19, 2009

Hello all, i was wondering if anyone would be interested in riding a small portion of the trail of tears on Saturday September 19, 2009.

I am still sort of new to the area and heard this is a big event.

I was thinking a short day trip from from Huntsville/Madison/Athens area to Florence and back.

Any kind of bikes will do just fine.

Please post if you are interested or have any ideas for this ride.

info

Huffys will do if you can keep up.

Looks like the party is going to be at McFarland Park in Florence, AL.

Here is the website for some info.

My plan so far is to wait for the coolest looking motorcade or motorcade with the most women and kind of tag along in the back as they pass through highway 72.

From that point just follow them to where ever they go since i have no idea where i am going.

I am going in the rain or in the snow with friends or foes, doesn't matter.

This is not only a big ride, it's HUGE. It was the largest ride in a America back in 2005. It's also has had a huge shakedown in the organization since I last covered this event, now resulting in TWO trail of tears rides, both on the same day, both starting and ending at the same place, but on two completely different routes.

Madison is an official stop point on one of the rides, and when there was just one ride, there would be over a thousand bikes converging on Madison. Traffic would be blocked for hours as police escorts helped the bikes get into the parking lot and then back on the highway.

There's two 'official' Trail of Tears rides and two web sites as well:
http://www.trailoftears-remembrance.org/
http://www.al-tn-trailoftears.net/

Ride maps for each:

There's also a motorcycle rally Friday evening in Madison before the ride. This was pretty huge the one time I went.

Alright guys i will not be able to make the Trail of Tears Ride.

Tonight my engine failed while riding. Luckily i was at Providence in front of the Phuket and not on the highway going 80+MPH.

I don't know exactly what the problem is but it seriously sounds like a rod is disconnected from the piston. Mad clanking noise coming from crank case and/or cylinder.

I read some people had push rod problems but this noise is extremely loud, like a broken rod noise. The engine locks up when trying to start it but if i rock the bike in gear i can get it to start. I will not be starting the engine anymore.

There were no problems riding from Athens to Providence. The noise happened when i started the engine at providence.

This bike is a 2008 Harley Nightster - 1200cc with full factory Stage 1 kit installed by Harley Davidson. It currently has about 4,400 miles.

The Harley Warranty should be 2 Years Unlimited Mileage. I am the second owner and I bought the bike with 2,700 miles on it late July of this year. All maintenance services performed and documented by Harley.

I wonder what the warranty is like at Harley Davidson?

I have to tow this junk to the dealer later today.

I will keep you guys updated.

That sucks. You barely even had a chance to ride that thing. I hope it all gets resolved soon. We still have to shoot a motion shot with you on it in your 1940s-looking gear.
