November 8th 09:30 AM to 10:00 PM
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
Where: Meet at Lowes, North Parkway in Huntsville before 10:30a

Here's the official plan:

We're leaving Geno's parking lot at or before 12:29 pm. We'll cruise to Ft. Payne to get gas and regroup, then we'll head up into the park.

Geno's opens at 11, so I'm planning to be there right at 11 to get lunch before we leave.

For the HSVillains, I'll be leaving the N. Parkway Lowe's parking lot at 10:30. You're welcome to come along. If other guys want to set up other meeting points, of course feel free to.

The way to get there:

The day could not have been more perfect for a cruise and a drive on some mountain roads. And apparently it was a great day for a lot of other enthusiasts as well. A Mercedes g500, a Hummer, and dune buggies were just some of the other vehicles we ran across besides the endless motorcycles.

In Scottsboro, more drivers joined us and we had equal representation of Mustangs, Neon SRT4s, BMWs, and Subarus, making for an almost 20 car mixed-crowd cruise to Fort Payne. Along the way, cameras peered out of cars as we took photos of each other. I got some good rolling shots, but not one of each car like I wanted. If anyone is interested in having these types of shots made of their car, feel free to get in touch with me.

The drive to Little River Canyon felt like the shortest part of the day with small stops along the way to fuel up our cars or ourselves. Gas stations were periodically overrun with our group of cars. Maneuvering our little train of cars through traffic lights without being broken up proved to be a bit of a challenge. We did lose some cars for a bit, but once we stopped at the large overlook, everyone caught up and we proceeded to drive.

Unfortunately, the road must be no secret as it was packed full of other cars and bikes enjoying the drive through the mountain roads. It wasn't like this on the weekday when vehicular drove it.

We regrouped at a turnaround spot and took a few group photos before proceeding to head back to the overlook where we first stopped. There was some discussion about a rock in the middle of the road so some drivers went to examine the feasibility. In the end, there was no feasibility. I waited for the results and enjoyed the humor of sti2k5. Entertaining as always. Maryna and I also stepped a bit off the beaten path to take some pictures of her.

People started heading back as the sun started to set. The drive back to Scottsboro was not too bad, but as the evening started to set in, the weariness of the day started to set in as well. A great and exahusting day.

Special thanks goes out to AF8LTA for taking some of these pictures and shooting some video on my other camera.

Anyone have a free spot?

I actually don't mind driving, and would if I had tires on the Porsche. But I'd rather not try to keep up, take pictures, and drive all at the same time. I can do it, and am experienced at it, but I'd rather not.

Right after the other cruise. Relocated a new Red Top battery to the trunk to try and solve the problems, but it didn't work.

Did you get these CELs before or after the new battery?

Before and after. They're all voltage codes, so I had my battery tested and they said it was bad. Now it looks to be my alternator...

I don't enough about the SRT4s to know exactly what to look for to confirm/not confirm the alternator. Have you went on the SRT4 forums and searched/asked?

It makes sense that the battery would go bad if the alternator was bad, especially since you had some issues with it. But the CEL should have tripped long before since it would have had to stop charging the battery and then the battery completely drain to a point where the plates got sulfated.

Of course.

Voltage codes are throwing my car into "limp mode" which means I can't shift at or above 2500rpms. This means I can't go over 60mph. Soooo yeah, no cruises for me if this isn't fixed.

Hmmm...very weird. Sounds like what my Altima would do with a bad battery. Optimas have been known to be DOA. Have you tried another battery?

I just got a call from Summer, a model on modelmayhem.com. We were talking about doing a test shoot sometime soon, and I mentioned that she could come to the Canyon this Sunday and she agreed. She loves cars too.

Here's a link to her portfolio:

Optima is fine. While the car is running, I shouldn't be throwing voltage codes unless it's the alternator.

Upon further research, it looks like it's the camshaft position sensor. Should be a ~$40 fix.

I may just be driving tomorrow after all...

Wow, what a day. Thank you to everyone who offered me a ride or gave me one. Special thanks to AF8LTA for grabbing additional pictures and videos on my other camera, and the talented Maryna for taking some great pictures with the scenery of the canyon. Oh, and of course, sti2k5 for providing endless entertainment.

There's 5 hours in just upload time for the pictures/video, so expect the event coverage published late Monday or Tuesday. I can't wait for Knology to do their upgrade on their service. Upload times will be reduce by 3 times or more. Yay!
