Rallycrossing is like autocrossing, except off-road. It allows you to learn some of the more subtle techniques of driving and make a lot of dust in the process.

From this link:

"TIME:
08:00 Course setup/tech/registration
10:00 Driver's meeting
10:30 1st car off
2:30 Approximate end time of event

ENTRY FEE:
SCCA members - $30 max / $15 min (more entries lowers the entry fee)
Non-SCCA folks - Add $5 to the SCCA member rate.

EVENT FORMAT:
Typically 4 timed runs + 4 timed runs. Free fun runs afterwards.

TROPHIES:
You wear them home - it's that big grin on your face"

You can run any stock height vehicle in rallycross, and I believe that includes stock-height 4wd vehicles, so you can have the power of all wheel drive on your side. And of course, Subarus are welcome, even the crazy turbo-charged type.

Because the site has been used so often, the course is actually captured by google maps. Check it out here.

It had been several years since I'd been to a RallyCross, and to my surprise there were several cars from all over the southeast racing as well as a lot of support for the event. Large plumes of dust could be seen all the way from 565 from the racing. A shower or some rain would've just made this event more interesting as the cars would have been covered in mud versus dirt.

There were a lot of the usual suspects from the autocrossing world driving their specially built RallyCross machines. There was everything there from a 1 Gen rx7 to a Mopar Demon. Some other vehicles of interest were the 1980s Toyota pickup and the 1990s Subaru Impreza with an engine swap. Both looked really great on the course.

And then there were the oridinary cars, like BMW 3-series, and the classic BMW 2002, as well as the Neon.

Most were outfitted with winter snow tires as opposed to dedicated RallyCross tires. They seem to give more consistent grip on the course.

The tall grass made it a bit hard to see the cars on course at ground level, so I was up on a stand almost 10 feet off the ground. And the cars were still pretty buried in the grass. But I'm sure it makes the course much more apparent.

Spectators of all sorts stopped by including some of the bikers on the various rides and runs during the day. That Dude even stopped by in his Evo X. Even though it's an awd turbo car, I don't think it would like the rough surface of the course with the aero package it has. It was good to see it on the pavement where it belongs.

I think I got one good shot of each car on course. In haste, I forgot to grab my other camera that can shoot video. But at the distances, I don't think it would have done much justice anyways. See everyone next time!

The land used by this event is commercial real estate that is for sale. My father is one of the owners of one of the tracts and can be reached at 256-990-1819 if someone has an interest in the property. -- Samir

HAHAHA!!! That's the funniest thing I've ever read online!

I'm actually working on them as we speak. I hoping to have everything posted by the end of today.

What happened at the race at the Speedway? I was waiting for your text, but it never came.

duuuude, I told you just to come shoot whenever...

That thing kinda sucks about running the speedway, you never know the group run-order till you get there... could race at 7, 8,9,10...

Did get a plug in for Huntsvillecarscene I think, will have to go to the tape... check the video on teamtac.org.. If you take me some good photos of the racecar then maybe I can woo some mo sponsors.

Oh, I thought you were going to text me when you found out what time your race was. Next time.

Thank you for the plug! I'll check out the video and see if I can't get down to a race this year. I know I can get some decent shots, but it is a challenge in that lighting.

I'm almost done with the coverage of all the events from this weekend, so keep a look out.
