Early morning rain threatened to affect the schedule, but around noon, the clouds moved out and the sun broke through. By 2pm, the parking lot at Cici's had sunny skies above.

And the threat of bad weather didn't stop people from planning to come. Even those that said they couldn't make it stopped by, even for just a bit. Because of the nice weather, other people stopped by too bringing some really nice cars with them including one of the s2000s that will be part of next weekend's Indy race at Barber Motorsports park.

After everyone was done munching at Cici's, we headed to the Carmike Theater parking lot for some more photos and then on a short cruise through Bankhead, Monte Sano, and Dug Hill Road. The weather couldn't have been nicer. Another group left for a similar cruise just ahead of us, but theirs ended at the Athens Cruise-In, which they said was pretty good.

Our cruise ended at a nice parking lot down from a hill where I was able to capture some great panning shots of cars in motion. We hung out in the parking lot taking pictures until everyone started to leave. Lacey was kind enough to pose with cars throughout the day. You'll be seeing more of her.

There were tons of people out today cruising from sportbikes, to cruisers, to just random people in cars. This is one thing we all seem to have in common as enthusiasts in the valley--we love our mountain roads on days like this, and we love to travel on them with our friends.

Special thanks to Lucky for letting me ride along with him, and for putting together a great event. Although drifting has gotten a bad reputation in Huntsville, it is a legitimate motorsport. And at the core, the people involved in it are no different in their enthusiasm than any of the other car or bike cultures in the area.

I think the hardest part of drifting for most of the public to understand is that drifting incorporates the same style and mindset as other freestyle sports like skateboarding, surfing, freestyle motocross, stunt biking, and the like. Once you get that, it really starts to make sense. And the freestyle roots are evident--many of the the drivers can skateboard as well. I'll see everyone at the next cruise.
