Hyundai passes Porsche and challenges Mini

http://jalopnik.com/5567323/hyundai-...s-mini-to-race

Quote:
Mini's terrorized Porsche after its refusal to race Mini. Now Hyundai is turning the tables on Porsche (and Mini), challenging Mini to race the Hyundai Genesis Coupe after their "go-kart race" is over. We love this trend we've started.

I think it's a great idea! There haven't really been automaker duels since like...the old muscle cars. But I thought I'd never say it...the hyundai will win. The Cooper is quick, but when you're up against a 300+ HP RWD car that weighs less than the M5, and will pull corners at .98 g's....the cooper better hope to god that little FWD go-cart has the handling to put some distance on the hyundai, but it's a FWD, and the Hyundai has the power to be "Imperfect" in the corners and make up for it. The Coope must race PERFECT to even CONSIDER beating that hyundai.

It really depends on the course and how the Genesis Coupe's power will come into play. I think of it as a 350z vs the mini. The 350z has power and great handling, but I've seen the mini hang with 350s times on local autocross courses, so it really depends on how tight the course is and is there will be areas where power can really be put down to affect times.

That's a really good point as well. The Cooper DOES have superior handling, but you must also take into account the "Style" of race Hyundai is probably thinking of.

It'll probably be a closed road course, of Mini's choosing, or a course that would "Benefit" the Mini somehow. Like how Mini Catered to Porsche's GA plant, and challenged them on their own turf.

If the Hyundai races the mini on a track more oriented to Handling than straight line acceleration or top speed, then the Mini cooper may eat it up, but if there are plenty of areas for the Genesis to gain speed, and still have corner wide enough that it'll hold that speed, the cooper simply CAN'T stand a chance...at least not stock

Yep. Now we just need to see the race happen.
