Autocrossing is a time-based event in which cars race against the clock on a course made of cones. Doesn't sound complicated or exciting, but it is the complete driving experience, allowing you to push the limits of you and your car in a controlled environment.

The Tennessee Valley Region of the Sport Car Club of America (TVR-SCCA) is a sister club to the Twickenham Auto Club (TAC) and the events follow a similar format.

Online registration is available here:

A good number of participants came out to the autocross. There were a lot of our friends from Birmingham, as well as lots of local s2000s from s2ki.com.

The course was fast and short, but mimicked a national tour autocross with the normal two days represented by the two halves of the day. The second half of the day reversed the course with slight changes to make it flow better and have different entry and exit points, just like at nationals. This year, the national autocross will be in Moultrie, GA.

The fastest times on course broke 35 seconds. A nice long 270 degree sweeper saw a lot of drifting action as drivers tried to get that dialed in just right. It was always a battle between understeer and oversteer, and getting it just right set you up for the next few features and the final slalom, which saw a lot of cone counts.

A strong number of entrants meant everything moving quick was a necessity. There were three runs each and making a clean one was sometimes a real challenge.

The weather held out great with a breeze that kept us cool even with the strong sun. A few intermittent clouds gave quick respites from the heat, and made for some changing photography conditions.

A great time for all. See everyone next time!

This will be the first of two SCCA membership drive events. Join SCCA at the event and we waive the entry fee for the event. Fill out this form and bring it to the event.

Yes, thank you for that Steve! You'll basically be able to join for half price. It's like a groupon without the groupon, lol.

I believe it's valid anywhere there's an scca region. There's race series that span the US, so I'd assume they would be valid everywhere.

Sure are. One of the best vantage points is actually on the overlook that runs parallel to the course.

But this really isn't a spectator sport and will look boring-what you need to do is come take a ride. They're free! Just sign the waiver, borrow a helmet from the trailer and just see how many guys actually refuse a girl asking them for a ride, lol. It like being on a bunch of different rollercoasters in one day.

Being a passenger is quite exhilarating!!! No control, just along for the ride...

lol, they weren't calling you fat--they were just very competitive drivers that can actually feel the difference in the handling of the car. But you'll still find plenty of people that be willing to give you a ride.

Sometimes you women take things the wrong way, so I was just explaining.

[guy]
"You look good tonight honey"
[girl]
"What!? Does that mean I don't look good normally?"
[guy]
"Uhhhh..."

lol

yes, riding in the car with someone while autocrossing is way fun! being thrown around in a car is better than being thrown around on a roller coaster.

Looked like lots of cars there. I rolled through on my way to the track meet at Milton Frank.

Yeah, I saw your car at the track meet parking before I went to the other side. So did you run at the meet or just showing support?
