Someone scratched up the roof of my 350z. Any ideas on something to buff the scratchs out with or any ideas besides getting the roof repainted? Would a new roof piece be cheaper than a paint job or do I just need to throw down and get the roof painted?

I hate people that do things like this.
![]() Depending on how bad it is, you may be able to repair it. Repainting the entire roof would be a last resort in my opinion.

Could always do a vinyl wrap on the roof. I have seen a few that look really good, and its much cheaper than paint.

Great thinking Josh! I forgot about that.
I think a CF with some orange in the weave would be super sweet.

If your can caught your finger nail on the scratch more than likely you won't be ab le to buff it out. I do like the roof wrap.

the vinyl roof is pretty popular on the 350Z.

This. I had debated on doing mine but just never did. It looks good because of the way the panels on the car are made. This is just my $.02 but i'd just stick with a gloss black wrap. It'll match your tint and i personally hate fake carbon fiber........but that's just me. Your car your call.
Also they do actually make a carbon fiber pannel to go on the roof. I wanna say there about $800ish.....the also make the a pillars and hatch in carbon as well. It'd be sick to do whole to of the car in carbon (which was my plan before i sold the car).

Yeah, I agree with all this. Black is the way to go. I just painted my old Honda Preludes roof black. My hood and trunk we cf so it looked like a black stripe going down a white car. The black wheels and headlights did work to set the car off imo. If I didn't have a black car, Id paint my roof black again.

That would be interesting too.
I've noticed this pattern A LOT though in interiors. I didn't quite recognize it until I started seeing it regularly.

You can't put a fingernail in the scratches so that is good know. You know how a door handle area looks when someone misses the slot to put the key in and scatches their door... Well that's what it looks like in a 7x7 inch square on top of my roof :/ One of my friends said to try a buffing compound first to see if that would get rid of the scratches. Anyone know anything about a "buffing compound"? I'm going to try and get Yager to look at it before I get it fixed, that way I'll have an opinion on what needs to be done.

I'd take it straight to one of the detailers that advertise here on HCS. Both do a great job and can get that taken care of pretty easily.
![]() And once you see what they can do with the top, you'll probably want the whole car done.
