I have an S2000 and a Mini S. The S2000 is a great car with an amazing engine. Very fun. However the pucker factor is very high at times and the car has to be driven with some discipline and proper technique's. Mine is an AP1 and does not have any nanny electronics. It is faster than my Cooper. However the Cooper has about 80 less horsepower but is more torque down low and much easier to drive at the limit. Much faster on an autocross course (stock) The Cooper is magic and rarely does anything wrong. So it is a matter of choice. The BRZ has caught my attention heavily.

I saw the grey one earlier today in Athens. I saw the front and was going through my mental database of front-ends thinking it was an rx8 for a second and then noticed it was the BRZ/FRS! I like the front--the rear not so much because of the tail lights. I would've preferred all red lenses.

The taillights were my biggest cosmetic gripe with the Evo when I bought it. That's why I threw the Evo VII tails on the car.

I'm sure the JDM/EDM tails are going to have to be different. Unless there's an amber bulb in there.

I don't understand why American versions of Japanese cars get some odd chrome accents. I guess they figure all Americans love chrome.

Toyota Altezza/Lexus IS300 started it all imo. Altezza tail lights got popular over here then they started calling them euro tail lights then more production cars started making them with these styled lights and boom now everyone does it.

I think with LED technology where it is, there's no need for a light at all anymore. I've seen minitruckers paint over them and they shine through the paint. Now that's slick.

This is what really gets me. If you go and talk to the Scion or Subaru dealers around here they won't have any manual FT-86 cars for awhile because they say they haven't been distributed or produced yet. How can you have that much of a percentage for manual transmission and then the majority of what I have heard and seen are auto cars? Not a single manual trans and none are expected here for awhile. Is there another secret location producing these cars in auto trans only and we are getting their stock? Hahaha I also read something about pre-orders before the car even launched and it said out of all the pre-orders that 70-80% were for manual transmissions. So why in the world did they decide to produce so many auto cars? Especially with the mission statement and design of this car, why would they produce so many automatic cars? The idea is to feel and be a part of the drive. I love this car (more than most, as you know) but I don't understand why they aren't continuing to ramp up production and give the eager buyers what they want. It seems like they didn't think the car would be popular so they are producing a limited number to test the waters. Maybe even to keep the prices artificially high. I also understand the counterpoint to that would be the car is new and popular and the demand could drop off soon thereafter. However, I don't see that happening anytime soon. They certainly could have handled the launch better in my opinion.

So tell us what you really think about the automatic version.
![]() I think this is just a case of completely being blown away by demand. And why should they invest more to ramp up production when there's no guarantee of sales? It's millions of dollars to do so and they have to plan it out probably a year in advance to do it. And why match up supply to demand when you can make more off each unit? That's counter to what businesses want to do--make money. Dealerships are going to be happy that they can stuff an extra few 1000s back on each sale, helping keep some dealerships alive. From a consumer perspective it does suck, but from their perspective it doesn't get better than this!

Saw my first one today out on the Arsenal. It was the grey FRS. Thoughts are it is small and has some good lines. The tail lights definately kill the rear end as they scream out from the rest of the car. I would like to sit in one and see if I fit and drive it to see what all the hype is about. But I still cant behind the price tag for what it is, maybe that is just me. I would take one as a DD if it were closer or under 20k. Maybe a used one in a few years with low miles. Or if the BRZ eventually comes turbo'd it would get a more serious look.

In regards to the auto's, I believe it's simple marketing. They already have the manuals sold, so why go ahead and produce them? Produce the autos, get them in the market and being the first ones, they will sell to those that have been waiting or just want to have the first one on the block. Then produce the already sold cars. Cha-Ching $.
Or at least, that's my take on it. Typically you can follow the money and figure out why companies do what they do.

All those holding out hope that it will get boost from the factory can cancel that dream and will have to stick with aftermarket. BRZ STI = no boost from factory. Just a more "powerful" version of the current 2.0 boxer engine. A bump of about 50 hp.
"One downside to the BRZ STI is that there will be no turbocharged version offered. Subaru says there is no space for it in the engine bay and they are reserving these version for models like the WRX STI." http://www.topspeed.com/cars/subaru/...-ar127134.html |

Yeah, this isn't news to this thread. To be honest, if I were buying the car I could care less about a turbo. IMO an extra 50 hp is all this car really needs to grab the enthusiasm of people that are holding out for a Toyobaru with more power. 50 hp goes a long way in a 2800 lb car.

exactly. if they happen to raise displacement, the gain in TQ would be complement the hp gain nicely in a light weight chassis.
