Here's a good video about both bills.

Fixed it for you.

Seriously, just read the bills. Then there's no 'interpretation' of what's important to you. You can see what it means to you first hand.

I have and I'd say everything I've posted pretty much sums up my thoughts.

This is what I think every time I hear SOPA/PIPA. Or read it. But seriously we all know the government wants to censor the internet, and is just using the "stop online piracy" thing as a scapegoat.

How many of you grew up with a tape deck and blanks recording songs off the radio.

Before that did you or did not have a real to real hooked up to a turn table?

How many people bought the dual vhs vcrs in the 80s and 90s and copied vhs tapes?

Piracy can't be stopped and this bill, as I see it, is the dutch boy putting his finger in the dam after the town has already flooded.

The internet only makes it quicker and easier to get the media, but the people who are gonna get stuff without paying for it will find a different way.

it hasn't even come to the table, and has already been pushed back. the President has already said he won't sign it, until it is more streamlined.

The lawmakers couldn't even figure out how to interpret the laws written in the bills, which is why it's now stalling in committees.

Which is probably where it will sit. Crisis averted, lol.

But there it was controlled from the get-go. I couldn't see anyone giving up what they already have now. There's too many private companies that make money by providing unfiltered access. All the ISPs would be more upset at an attempt to do this than we would because they know they'd lose customers.

It's not over--not by a long shot. IP protection on the Internet will come, and it still will effect things. This is inevitable.

The industry will most likely have to adapt. Look at the music industry and itunes for example, before that, they went after people that taped music on their home radios and used VCRs. The way you beat free pirated movies is you find the acceptable price point where people will buy the real thing. I used to download free music, but with every song now on Amazon for $0.99, I buy all my songs from there.

Existing laws already cover a lot of this too.

Yep, and I think they've done as much of this as they can. I mean, you can buy movies at Wal-mart for $5 now.

I think the problem that they're experiencing is when these same protected works are being used without permission repeatedly and the websites are just hiding behind DMCA procedures. It gets a little ridiculous. The law is there, but enforcement isn't effective at preventing damages. This is what needs to be addressed by both parties coming to the table.

But right now, the websites don't want to give up their revenue, so they're fighting a peaceful solution that will cost them money. So the IP creators launched an attack in congress, which the websites fought online. The first strikes have been made, and this is the beginning of a war...

the problem is the way they are wanting to battle this. by giving themselves and big business the power to censor and shut down what ever they want without due process will kill many upstart internet based businesses. all the larger company has to do is CLAIM the new company has copyright infringement on their site and they get shut down.

THIS x1,000,000!

To add, it'll be even worse with any business that financially backs a politician.
