Help me search for a car!

Well, as of today my Mustang GT has a new home, I miss her already.

Now I have to find something new, and to be honest I have no idea what I want, so maybe some suggestions will help me out. I have about $8000 to spend, so most of the car's I want are out of the question (Altima SE-R, Sentra SE-R, G35, WRX)

I need something to get me to school and back 2 or 3 times a week, but something I can have fun with, work on and maybe get into autocross with.

I found a 2006 Altima SE-R in Bessemer, but it has a salvage title and I hear to stay away from those, but at $7250 I almost want to buy it.

I can, but the only ones I have found are on craigslist. I called the owners of 3 or 4 of them and most of them either have A. Major body damage that needs repaired or B. almost 150K+ miles. I mean, I guess I could buy one that needed body work done and repair it with the extra money, but i'd honestly rather not go through the hassle of it all.

Has anyone ever owned or are knowledgeable about the 2003.5 MazdaSpeed protege? I'm starting to get very interested in this car.

I researched these at one point and found that they weren't very moddable. This one with a turbo upgrade would scare me.

I'd look for:
  • IS300 sportwagon
  • Infiniti G20t
  • Mazda Protege 5

I'd say you could buy my FD3S but, it's slightly out of your price range. But, if you decide to just say screw it, let me know! lololol

On a serious note: Are you looking for something that you can put more than 2 people in, or do you need a bunch of trunk space or anything? If not, something that is cheap, fun, great handling, and has a good aftermarket following, then I would suggest a MX5 Miata. Great cars, super reliable, and maintenance/aftermarket prices are relatively cheap.

Laser for sale in Moulton for a grand. http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/2764688390.html

And by automatic turbo he/she means the auto 1g DSMs had a smaller turbo. I am assumeing this one is a five speed and the turbo failed and was replaced with the smaller and cheaper automatic turbo.

http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/2807765816.html

Non turbo Talon for sale as well 2500. You could make it fun for auto cross with the extra money. Plus decent MPG. less than 130k is decent. Through a timing belt on there and it should be ready to rock for at least 70k more.

FD Would be a good buy @ 8k as long as its in semi decent condition. Those things seem to only be going up in price. But for that price you could get an RX8, which is considerably more modern, can comfortably seat 4 adults (I am 6 ft and fit comfortably in the back of 8). And the interior in them is great. And they handle quite well.

Couple of 8s on craigslist. A few in your price range, the others are just slightly more. http://huntsville.craigslist.org/sea...inAsk=&maxAsk= I can't really give much advice on them. My girl's best friend does own one, and I've driven it a few times, ridden in it more. But she won't let me wrench on it.

This FD is like no other. I've got pics of it that are awaiting to be published.

The rx8 is great until the motor has an issue, which many have had at 100k. Not something I'd be too happy with. Plus, the power does seem a little weak until you rev it quite high.

Thanks for the links! I called about the 2005 RX-8 for sale for $7800 and it's sounding pretty good right now, going to take a look at it next week. I also found a 2002 WRX for sale for $5000 but needs a new front and rear bumper and side skirts. Since it's so cheap, that could leave me money to have it repaired. I don't know about buying a damaged car though, still thinking about that one.

So, I found this 350z today on craigslist but I figured the price was to good to be true, called the owner and it has a rebuilt title. Does anyone have any experience with a rebuilt title? Everybody I talk to that has one has said the damage has not been to bad, but it was bad enough for the car to be considered total? I don't really understand that at all. Should I just stay away from those all together?

The owner said this car was backed into and the air bags deployed.

My understanding about it is the vehicle has a salvage title due to the amount of damage to it. Then a reputable shop takes the vehicle, fixes it, and then gets it inspected. Once it passes the inspection it is given a rebuilt title.

This is the way it's supposed to work, but the reality of it is the car is put back together as cheaply as possible using possibly questionable methods and the cheapest parts and there is no physical inspection. Stay away unless you know the complete history of the car and are comfortable with it (eg. a flood car that your uncle had restored and that you rode in for 5 years and never knew).

Any interest in a 05 SRT4? 97k miles, pretty clean, biggest flaw is a busted dash. Don't want to sell it just yet as I have a vibration from what I think is the passenger side axle on it's way out but I should be getting that looked at in the next few days. Has a few mods, bigger intercooler, K&N intake, Turbonetics cold-side pipe and BOV, couple other things and a set of springs and a wastegate that aren't installed.
