Fundraiser Car Show

We all know how the school systems have no money to do anything for our kids. My daughter goes to Farley Elementary School in south Huntsville. She is on the student council and they were tasked with coming up with a fundraising project to have a couple new concrete benches installed so the kids do not have to sit on the ground while waiting on the buses and parents to pick them up. I had the idea of having a car show to help raise money for the school. I am in talks with a production company to host the show.

My question to everyone is How many of you would attend this event if it happens?

Date, entry fee, and prizes will be the biggest factors affecting the turnout. If you want to get the event production company in touch with me for promotion, I'll help out where I can.

I am all for helping out our schools. But the date and price would depend on if I would be able to come as well. I don't care that much about prizes especially when it's going to a good cause.

If you find out details and target audience (domestics, imports, or anyone) I can help and see if I can draw people in.

Same as the others. Depending on date and cost to enter I would probably go.

You know, one thing just dawned on me. The school system could get paid thousands a year for allowing autocrossing to take place at Milton Frank Stadium like they have in the past. Yet, they turn down this money and then we have to raise money via other means.

Is it just me or does this a roundabout way for the schools to get additional funding?

Naw I see it too. The thing is, schools or should I say the school system don't see it like that. They see it as bad habits. You know how society is, if a few as a whole believe it not to be safe, right or make complete sense, then the will make sure it doesn't happen. It only takes a few weak minded people to follow them and it's over with. Sorry I'm having a rant day lol.

Yeah, but their 'feelings' and 'beliefs' shouldn't really have a say so when the financial security of the system is on the line. There's a lot of unethical stuff going on that is wasting money, and then we have to find other means to fund things. They rent the facility to other organizations, and for less money at times. Just doesn't make sense, and someone's personal ideas are getting in the way of progress...

I wouldn't pick that date. You're up against this one that everyone goes to:

Before finalizing a date, I'd do a couple of checks:
  • Check the calendar here as many years back for that particular weekend to see what events were there and how big they were.
  • Check almanac.com for the weather at least 5yrs back. If there's been rain in the past or cloudy skies, that's one thing to watch for, but the other is excessively hot temperatures. That is the new event killer weather-wise.
  • If there are no free Saturdays, choose Sunday. There have been many successful events on Sundays between 2pm and 7pm.
