$200,000 and 950hp Mustang

Quote:
Carroll Shelby still has some serious mojo.

The legendary tuner’s eponymous company, Shelby American, has taken the wraps off its most powerful creation ever, the Shelby 1000.

The four-digit number represents the power of the supercharged 5.4-liter engine under the modified Ford Mustang’s hood, more or less.

Stripped to the block and fitted with a suite of customized parts that includes a new blower, flowed heads, stronger rods, crank and pistons and a sprinkling of “Shelby magic,” the motor puts out a claimed 950 hp in street tune while the company says a racing version is good for 1,100 hp.

Somewhat surprisingly, Shelby American VP Gary Patterson tells FoxNews.com that the Shelby 1000 isn’t intended to be a quarter mile car, although it should be no slouch at the drag strip with a solid driveshaft and 9-inch rear end. An upgraded suspension and brake package aim to improve handling on twisty tracks.

Read FoxNews.com Auto's review of the Shelby GT350

The Shelby 1000 was built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the first Shelby Cobra, and will be available in limited numbers, although the price tag might take care of that itself.

The car costs $149,995 on top of the $49,995 price of the Shelby GT500 donor car needed to build it.

I think this would be a sleeper of sorts since it doesn't look 1000hp or $200k.

Im guessing this is the answer to Chevy's corvette ZR1. Probably got a lot a power but can't handle a corner.
Personaly, if i had 200k, i would look to an audi r8 v10 or GTR and still would have 50-100k left to make it even faster.
Or just get a Ferrari to say hey look at me lol

I've actually read somewhere that Shelby actually built this car to handle as well.

I'd still rather have a Boss 302 though...

The new Mustang chassis is really capable when it comes to handling. I'm sure this has the turning and stopping power as well as the get up and go.

But I hear you on the $200k. I don't know what I'd get. I'd probably mod all my existing cars. $20k in a Honda Accord is nice!

Sleeper, isn't? You'd actually think this car is slow because of all that, lol.

I'll give my 2 cents on this along with some info I got from a "well informed source"

In a way I agree with this, if the "Shelby 1000" decals are removed maybe, otherwise it kind of screams what it is lol. Other than the decals though, I love the look of it, but I am a fan of styling of the new mustangs as well.

It is not the answer to the zr1, the answer to the zr1 is in the works (think new ford GT). This car is a limited edition, limited production car for collectors really. The standard mustang GT beat an E92 M3 around a track, the new chassis's aree very well designed and handle extremely well. This car is also not all motor, it is made to be able to handle the corners. A stock r8 or GTR I wouldn't flat out say would beat this car though, on the launch without a doubt but beyond that, only testing will prove one way or the other.

like I said above, this car is a limited edition very limited production car that is more geared towards collectors. Think of it this way: when carol Shelby dies and this car ages and becomes a collector car, with only 50 (if I remember correctly) being built, the value will definitely increase as time passes. It is expensive, but for someone that has that kind of cheddar, I don't see it being a big deal. It is a fantastic car, and the other specs and things I've heard about the car are quite nice.

IMHO it is a fantastic car, and it shows the potential of the Ford 5.4L power plant and from what I've gathered is a showing of what the new ford is capable of, it's potential, and dedication to their heritage.

I hope this makes sense...I am super super freaking tired and I can barely string sentences together haha. Maybe I will read this tomorrow and elaborate or fix whatever I said that was incorrect. Oh well. Lol
