The First Wednesday Meet/Cruise-in
Calendar: Events Calendar

May 1st to December 31st 06:00 PM to 09:00 PM
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
Where: Village of Providence, 7 Town Center Dr, Huntsville, AL 35806
Contact: Call/text Samir 615-512-5520 www.huntsvillecarscene.com

This is a meet. This is a cruise-in. This is just a good time hanging out and talking with your friends and fellow enthusiasts while perusing the cars that have come out. If you remember the old Dairy Queen Meet/Cruise-in in Madison from years past, this event is a reboot of that. It is a family-friendly environment with plenty to eat so bring your kids.

This event is for every enthusiast in the area, young or old, for any enthusiast vehicle new or old, fast or slow, on road or off, 2-wheeled or 4. There is no registration fee, no door prizes or anything like that. Just a good time with fellow enthusiasts.

From Huntsville Car Scene.com: http://www.huntsvillecarscene.com/sh...#ixzz3VbDS5tEK

UPDATED:

This event is in the spirit of the old Dairy Queen Cruise-In in Madison. If you loved that event, you'll love this one—same atmosphere, same vibe, same fun, and even more food choices.

Please enter from the front on the ramp over the sidewalk in front of The Brickhouse AFTER 5 PM (please allow the staff time to set up for the event). We will have some signs posted and cones placed to help aid with parking. Once the front lawn is full we will start parking on the rear lot. If that area fills up please find a parking spot around the grass.

The goal of this meet is to provide a fun family friendly environment. ALL CARS ARE WELCOME and parking will be FIRST COME FIRST SERVE however we do reserve the right to save a few spots for select cars.

Thanks again for everyones continued support and thanks a ton to everyone that helps make this event a success.

Like the old DQ event, this event is rain or shine and year round. See you there!

This event is held in conjunction with the Village of Providence, who graciously permits enthusiast vehicles to park on their grassy park at the center of Providence, surface permitting. When the ground may not be able to support the weight of vehicles, the parking spots adjacent to the park will be used. Parking notifications will be posted here on Huntsville Car Scene.com. This event is rain or shine and year round, just like DQ used to be.

The entrance for the grass field is behind the grass field. There is a small gravel road leading from the pavement. Follow the signs with arrows at the stop sign at Brickhouse. And if you're unsure, feel free to ask someone or contact me directly at 615-512-5520. I may not be able to answer calls immediately the day of the event due to volume, so feel free to call me in advance and I'll explain exactly where to go.

And just like DQ, there are discounts on food at the following restaurants:
  • Mellow Mushroom - 15%
  • Moe's Original BBQ - free banana pudding
  • Sweet Cici's - 20%
  • Tony's Little Italy - 10%
And if you want a meal for free, just stop by at Huntsville Car Scene supporter Liberty Mutual Insurance in Providence for a free quote on your auto and home insurance, and they'll send you a gift card for dinner at your restaurant of choice in Providence. Just have your proof of insurance and ID.

Come out and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of Providence in your favorite ride. See you all there!

Here's a great detailed 3D map of the parking areas by gorkoracing:

Nah, it's still informal. If people just want to park on the street, they still have that ability. There will be signs and arrows, so that should be easy enough to figure out. And the instructions are on here, the flyers, and fb.

Over 100 people confirmed on fb now and I just rode through providence and the place was very much alive and packed. The patio party will make this event that much better. I'm sure there will be a large crowd.

But in the beginning I think it will be necessary. Just my two cents.
Agreed

Here's a blank template of the area to mark up for parking and ingress/egress. On days with unfavorable weather parking along the sides should still be good. there's a lot of spaces that continue on a good ways past where this screenshot cuts off.

Looks like about 16-17 cars per row in the field

I've totaled up some of the surrounding parking and marked some entrance points.
Optimal parking in red, blue parking for MM and the icecream shop in blue. Last 2 spots in front of MM are to go parking. There's a stump marked with a white circle and a pole with power outlets on it also marked with a white circle in the field.

The parking lot to the upper right would be a good parking area as well if we need overflow parking. Haven't tried to figure up how many cars could park along the street yet

Great diagram Anthony! I want to park on the 23 side! No more lawnmower for me! lol

That overflow parking you're talking about is great. We used it at one of our first Nissan meets and there is plenty of room back there.

I was looking at my deals websites this morning and found this that some people may have interest in. Get a Free 2'x4' personalized vinyl banner for about $8 shipped

http://www.buildasign.com/CustomBann...07&extcid=1409

Use promo code: CINCO2012 for 2'x4' banner
Use promo code: STUDENT08 for a 3'x6' banner for about $15 shipped

It's supposed to be good for a free cinco de mayo banner + shipping but the code works for all banners from what i'm reading.

I know the providence owner was willing to supply signs and stuff but this may save him some $$ if he wanted to do a banner and/or this may be good for other events

Cody - I can get there early as well. I get off at 4, so anytime after that is free for me.

The facebook page has blown up huh!!!

I'm not sure how much parking you can expect to have on the 23 side(north side) The times I've ate at MM they have pretty much been filled up. However the south side should be ripe for the picking

I'll be in touch a few days before clint. I'm planning on trying to be there a little after 5 to help make sure things go smoothly, I was out and about today and ran into a few people that were very excited about it and had been spreading the word.

I'll have 2-way radios available for us that are organizing. If you guys want to meet briefly a day before or something like that I'm definitely up for it.

Holy wondermap Batman!! That's awesome! Super work! I'm going to add it to the listing.

The only problem with that overflow parking is that it doesn't exist anymore. Remember they broke ground on the new building and all the construction equipment in the parking lot? That lot is gone. But the lot behind MM and that front area is still there.

It was nice back in those days, but it's being used for the construction of a new building, so it's out now.

I requested a couple of things that I don't remember because it's 2am and I posted them in either this or the other thread. I'm hoping he addresses those issues, and if not, at least lets me know what can/can't be done. Having some volunteers to help the first event will be great, but we want to this be like DQ where no one really had to work...well, besides me taking pictures.

Yes sir! And I'm sure more people will see it as my girlfriend, ba king, and the knuckleheads helped me pass out about 100 flyers at the Decatur cruise-in. Too bad I forgot to grab some to pass out at the Nissan meet.

In the parking diagram, there's also a whole lot of parking off the screen to the right. Probably another 17 spots x2. Plus, there are some parallel ones on the cross street.

I'm going to talk to the developer about the lot where we are entering from. I know we can use it, but right now I don't think it's smooth enough/debris free enough for enthusiast vehicles. Let's see if he can improve it in time for the first meet.

I know that grassy area holds about 80 cars comfortably, and can hold 100 if they're packed efficiently. Combine that with available street parking will put us at 150 at least. If we get the back lot, that's another 60 comfortably. We'll have a total capacity in that area of about 200, and with other overflow areas, people could park, but just not in the main area.

And remember how DQ would work--as the evening went on and people moved around, you could move into a now vacant spot. I'm sure it will be the same with this.

I went by and scoped out the spot. It looks like the NORTH entrance of the gravel lot is ALOT smoother. The southern entrance has some washed areas, but its possible if you stay to the left of them.
