The First Wednesday Meet/Cruise-in
Calendar: Events Calendar
Samir
Administrator

May 1st to December 31st 06:00 PM to 09:00 PM
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
Where: Village of Providence, 7 Town Center Dr, Huntsville, AL 35806
Contact: Call/text Samir 615-512-5520 www.huntsvillecarscene.com

This is a meet. This is a cruise-in. This is just a good time hanging out and talking with your friends and fellow enthusiasts while perusing the cars that have come out. If you remember the old Dairy Queen Meet/Cruise-in in Madison from years past, this event is a reboot of that. It is a family-friendly environment with plenty to eat so bring your kids.

This event is for every enthusiast in the area, young or old, for any enthusiast vehicle new or old, fast or slow, on road or off, 2-wheeled or 4. There is no registration fee, no door prizes or anything like that. Just a good time with fellow enthusiasts.

From Huntsville Car Scene.com: http://www.huntsvillecarscene.com/sh...#ixzz3VbDS5tEK

UPDATED:

This event is in the spirit of the old Dairy Queen Cruise-In in Madison. If you loved that event, you'll love this one—same atmosphere, same vibe, same fun, and even more food choices.

Please enter from the front on the ramp over the sidewalk in front of The Brickhouse AFTER 5 PM (please allow the staff time to set up for the event). We will have some signs posted and cones placed to help aid with parking. Once the front lawn is full we will start parking on the rear lot. If that area fills up please find a parking spot around the grass.

The goal of this meet is to provide a fun family friendly environment. ALL CARS ARE WELCOME and parking will be FIRST COME FIRST SERVE however we do reserve the right to save a few spots for select cars.

Thanks again for everyones continued support and thanks a ton to everyone that helps make this event a success.

Like the old DQ event, this event is rain or shine and year round. See you there!

This event is held in conjunction with the Village of Providence, who graciously permits enthusiast vehicles to park on their grassy park at the center of Providence, surface permitting. When the ground may not be able to support the weight of vehicles, the parking spots adjacent to the park will be used. Parking notifications will be posted here on Huntsville Car Scene.com. This event is rain or shine and year round, just like DQ used to be.

The entrance for the grass field is behind the grass field. There is a small gravel road leading from the pavement. Follow the signs with arrows at the stop sign at Brickhouse. And if you're unsure, feel free to ask someone or contact me directly at 615-512-5520. I may not be able to answer calls immediately the day of the event due to volume, so feel free to call me in advance and I'll explain exactly where to go.

And just like DQ, there are discounts on food at the following restaurants:
  • Mellow Mushroom - 15%
  • Moe's Original BBQ - free banana pudding
  • Sweet Cici's - 20%
  • Tony's Little Italy - 10%
And if you want a meal for free, just stop by at Huntsville Car Scene supporter Liberty Mutual Insurance in Providence for a free quote on your auto and home insurance, and they'll send you a gift card for dinner at your restaurant of choice in Providence. Just have your proof of insurance and ID.

Come out and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of Providence in your favorite ride. See you all there!

Here's a great detailed 3D map of the parking areas by gorkoracing:

Good point that can be easily addressed by officers since those roads belong to the city of Huntsville, not the Providence development.

As such folks need to be as friendly as possible to the people who don't "get it with all the cars and such..." who are also out to have a good time while getting some food and a beer or two.

The other thing I would say would be not waiting till redline to shift leaving the stop sign heading back towards 72. Not everybody appreciates a nice sounding exhaust and nobody likes a earful of fartcan while they are trying to eat dinner on the patio.

Samir, Ray and everybody else running around helping out it was a great meet and the potential is there for an amazing show every month. For an initial large show my little gripes are MINOR. Great Job!
The friendliness is key, and was key for dq as well.

As far as exhaust noise, this was kind of an informal tradition at dq, and since it is on public roads where the speed limit is 35, anyone doing so would also be subject to officer involvement. I'm sure this will automatically limit any issues.

Thank you very much for the compliments. It was definitely more than just me and Ray working on it. There were many more people and was a true group effort.

I estimate around 120. Once I have a chance to got through pics, I'll have a much more accurate number.

I think he was talking about the south side of the grassy area where some people parked. It's not city streets and I saw what he was talking about.

Nothing crazy, but general common courtesy or a good choking should fix it!!

In defense of some vettes peeps.
I saw vettes parked on the grass and saw them still there when it was dark.
as far as dinner... when breakfast is at 4:30am, Happy Hour....uh...err..dinner starts @ 4:30pm.
Some vette folks come straight form work...some change cloths first..
and "asking" about the music isn't "complaining".

Those side streets are city of Huntsville. We found that out really quick when we blocked them last year for the car show without letting them know.

Hey, no defense necessary. He owns a Corvette too, so it was intended to be sarcastic. Sarcasm doesn't come across well on the web.

Sarcasm?? on the Internet?? Unbeleivable!!!!!
carrying on;

the City of Huntsville is where the inquiry of music came in...all jokes aside
not Madison City (Skate Park)..or County (Cafe 302)...but HSV.. it's these type of gatherings that prompted the adding of " parking lots, private property, etc..." to the Huntsville City ordinance against loud car stereos.....
I can remember the State addressing it at DQ even back before there was a HSV ordinance...kind of kills the mood..we have an oppurtunity to have that DQ feeling again but we have to respect the residents of Providence, who are not that far at all from the businesses..if HPD starts getting complaints from any resident(s),,,even if they are just walking by, I'm afraid 1st Wed. at Providence will take a hit and have to regroup...even ZYP seemed to have theirs toned down a bit at the Brickhouse...
the small group over in the parking lot for a couple months.....nobody knew we was there....pull 100 cars on the grass and you'll get noticed..with growth comes potential problems..let's try to avoid them and discourage them.

having said that..
my get out of jail free card is not good for stupid crap or felony offenses.

I'm assuming your talking about the truck parked on The back side of the grassy area. At times it was cranked way up. It echoing off those brick buildings didn't help. It wasn't a constant thing, but at times it was a little much

We heard Roger's truck from the farthest side away from the windows while we were eating in mellow mushroom.

I know he does, but we in the audience don't necessarily know that.

Very good point about the city ordinance. It's more than just a possible annoyance, but something that could bring the law. Hence why I recommend 'limited quantity'. If it's loud enough that people notice and then go back to what they were doing without offense, it was short enough to not be an issue. But repetitive hooning would start to become an issue.

It's the little much where I could see an issue.

Hmmm...that wasn't necessarily a good thing.

The thing with Providence is it's "semi" residential and in the City limits so care must be taken...which reminds me.. anybody got a hookup on some of those cardboard folding square garbage cans (box)??

If trash is an issue, I'm sure I can talk to Providence about helping solve this issue.

Speaking of which, I got this via email this morning:
'The only complaint that I heard was from the Phuket folks, as they came out and were passing out free food and they had several rude comments made, including "we ate before we came and besides, we didn't come out here to eat, we came to show off our car."'

So who was rude like this to the very businesses that allow this event to happen? This needs to be addressed. If it repeats month after month, it will kill the event. A simple 'no thank you' would have been sufficient.

Simply put, I will just keep the truck away from this event.

I can almost guarantee this was someone under the age of 20. Unfortunately I was one of those punks back in high school. You can beat it into people's brains that this stuff doesn't need to happen, but because it's a public event I think you'll have a lot of difficulty keeping the bad eggs out. It's goin to take more than just a couple of concerned people to cut this crap out. Just my $.02

I actually made it a point to thank them for coming out and handing out samples. There's a few bad eggs that may ruin this for everyone.

Roger, you don't have to be like that. You just have to understand that why everyone at the event thinks it's cool as can be, the people that aren't involved with the event see it as just loud music. There is a time and a place to show off you stereo and i hate that this just isn't one of them. Hopefully this won't keep you away, or you could just bring the vette.

I talked to the Phuket people and ate one of their pot stickers. Also thanked them for walking over and hoped they drummed up some business. I hope the idiot that was ugly to them choked on his dollar cheese burger
