Moontown Fly-In and Cruise-In
Calendar: Events Calendar
La Voce
September 15th 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
Where: Moontown Airport, 200 Airport Dr, Brownsboro, AL 35741

Time for the annual run to Moontown airport on Saturday, 15 Sep, to participate in the event that serves up a slice of nostalgic Americana; a place where the smells of grilling hamburgers and hot dogs mixes with the heavenly aroma of burning avgas; a place where radial engines and dual Weber intakes roar along with the crowd; a place where you can stroll up and down the grass strip and touch some amazing antique, classic, kitplanes, and homebuilt aircraft. Meet up in the usual place, usual time: Big Ed's Pizza in Huntsville, AL, 8 am. We'll drive the scenic and fun route up and back down Monte Sano, Governor's Drive to Doug Hill Rd, and then a short spirited jaunt down Hwy 72 to the airport. Bring an Alfa, a spouse or friend (or both), a hat and sunscreen, and a folding chair and a cooler. Food and drink is available on site for purchase. All marques are welcome!

I wasn't able to head out to this very cool annual event, but Grant was and had a blast covering the event and got some awesome shots! Enjoy! -- Samir

Thank you for posting! I love this yearly event. It's the ultimate--a cruise-in for planes.

There is mention of bringing a cooler. Can it be stocked prior to entrance or does that need to be once in?

Stocked prior to entrance, I believe. I have to update this event with info from another link that may have more details.

A lot of reeeeally cool stuff. Sky writing, formations, stunt flying, and we even had a Russian mig stop by last year.

Sweet! I really wanted to hit this, but wanted to work on existing stuff instead. Now I can do just that.

Coverage should be up soon

Had a good time shooting, got a few tips and learned a few things from the other photographers there. All in all a fun morning breaking in the new camera.

Such tragic news. Here's some shots of the plane that Grant got before the accident:

We went Saturday from 9-12. Had a great time and saw the plane that crashed doing its formation and flying. Such sad news from a great event. My little boy loved watching the planes and he even gave a pilot a high five and told him thank you!!
