Deals Gap Rotary Rally 2006 - April 7-9, 2006

Its been awhile since I got on this forum.. I need to come visit more often!

Here are some info about the event. Last years event went really well with article about the event published in RXtuner Magazine. This year, we are fully supported by the RXtuner, RX7club, RX8club, and few rotary vendors around the country.

Hope some of you Huntsville rotorheads or those interested in Rotaries could join us.

Event will take place on April 7-9th, 2006 @ Deals Gap.
Deals Gap is also known as "Tail of the Dragon" - 11 miles and 318 turns!
This is a FREE event and everyone with Rotary or Ex-rotary cars are welcome to this event.

Last event, we had approximately 60 cars showed up.

Feel free to add this to the calendar. Maybe I can make it this year. Sounds like it will be even better than last year!

I'll see what I can do to make it. April's a bit far off for me to start planning my weekends. Most of the events I still don't have up on the calendar.

I'd love to see you out at the cruise this weekend. That car is absolutely sharp!

I've add the event to the Huntville Car Scene calendar and I may be able to get up early Saturday morning, spend the day with you guys there, and then head back in the late evening.

Oh oh, you said the magic word--F O O D. I think this event just got my top priority for the day.

Keep me in the loop as far as exact times as they become available. I'll have about 4 hours of driving so that's going to be a factor, especially since I've never been there. And I still don't know which car I'll be driving.

Samir, it might take little longer than 4 hours. I think last year, it took us 6 hours to get there.

We will be meeting at the bottom of Fantana Dam around 10AM (EST). Lunch will be served around 11:30AM. We'll leave the dam area around 2PM for the cruise. Cruise will last until 6-7PM. Where we'll have dinner at the Fontana Village around 7PM.

After that.. Rest up, party, and get ready for some cruising the skyway on Sunday!

Well, let me know by April 1st if you could make it or not. I need a head count for lunch. I'm getting it cater since next nearest restaurant will be 15-30 miles away. Oh, its going to be cater by "Sweetwater BBQ". Voted one of the best BBQ in NC.

I was actually estimating 4hrs there and back. Looking at the maps it looks like around the same time/distance from here to Atlanta, so it will definitely be a bit longer. I can usually make Atlanta in a little over 3hrs, so this should be around 3:15 to 3:30. If we're meeting at the dam at 10am est, that's 9am cst and means I have to leave at around 6am to get there at 10:30a est.

I'm not into early mornings, but will do it if need be. What will be going on from 11:30a to 2p besides eating and socializing? Will it be any different than from 10a to 11:30a? If there's going to be something unique, I'll punish myself a bit to get there for it.

After the cruise, I'd join everyone for dinner and then head back home hoping to get there before 2am cst. That should be easily possible since if I leave at 10pm est that's 9p cst and gives me 5 hours to get back home. I could get back home, dump the cameras, sleep and probably have the pictures processed and on Huntsville Car Scene by lunch time on Sunday.

It would be a tight plan, but seems like a blast. I've heard so much about the gap and seen the videos. It's very tempting to blow off anything else that comes up that weekend and go regardless. Tenatively, I am in. I will give you a strong confirmation by April 1st if not earlier. I just need to find out what's going on in the area locally.

Sounds good.. just let me know by april 1st.

oh, after lunch, we'll have a presentation by local deals gap runner (pro biker and rx7 owner) and a lecture by NC state trooper.

Pretty much from 10-2PM, we'll be hanging out and looking at cars. We will have a carshow.

Well, hope to see you there!

How long do you think the presentation and lecture will last? I guess people will start saddling up after that, won't they?

That's what I was thinking. Do you think people will button up and get ready to move right after the presentation, or will there be an "official" time to head out?

I know this is a bit later than April 1st, but I won't be able to make it. There are quite a few local events and I've currently got pink eye. I'd hate if that got spread to the rx7 community. I really hate I can't come. I was actually looking quite forward to it.

Samir,

Also you missed a great event! I had about 125 cars signed up.. but because of the weather about 70 showed up.

Let me know if there are any good get together in Huntsville, worth the drive.
I would like to come up there for some show or something.

I'm glad it was pretty good turnout. We'll have to plan more closely for next year. I definitely want to make it to the gap sometime, and I can't see any better excuse than to do it with a bunch of rx7s.

There's quite a few things coming up this month that would be worth the drive. Here's links to the events that I'm really looking forward to in May:
